You are what you eat...

Mmmm... breakfast. What is that? It's a bowl of brown rice with avocado, peanut butter and soy sauce. Oh, and of course, a cup of fair-trade coffee.

Today is the summer solstice, and although it would be fitting to plan my longest ride of the year on the longest day of the year, it didn't quite work out that way. Instead, it's probably going to be the hottest ride of the year (100+ degrees F); I'm riding up to Palo Alto to meet up with my lady and some friends.

Normally, a breakfast like this isn't part of the routine. I usually eat some fresh fruit and maybe a granola bar, whatever easily fits into a jersey pocket. I've got rides planned for this weekend too, so I don't want to empty out the glycogen stores, ya know? Today, I'll be needing those carbs (rice), protein (peanut butter), and salt (soy sauce). The avocado... I just like avocado.

Ride safely and happy trails.

How much do you spend?

There was an interesting article in the NY Times yesterday... It's important to have perspective, and I often forget that there are people who need their cars.

How much do you spend on transportation? Last year, I put approximately 2,000 miles on my car and over 8,000 miles on my bike(s). Despite the 4:1 mileage ratio, my bike related costs were less than the car related expenses (gas, general maintenance, registration, and insurance). Does that mean I should drive my car more? Nope, it means I should take better care of my bikes!

Ride safely and happy trails.
